There are also a couple of spots where you can park and either go for a walk or use the restroom. There were lots and lots of birds, butterflies, fish and gators to be seen as you plod along at about 10mph, mostly on the right hand side of the car. It's only open a couple of days a week, so make sure you check before traveling. This is a really nice way to get a break from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks.
We had a difficult time finding right route so make sure you know where the driving trail entrance is before you go 30 minutes out of the way to the wrong entrance! Several of the access roads to get to the entrance seem to cause Google Maps to get confused. One tip - we got hung up trying to get to the correct entrance. The area that the Lake Apopka Wildlife Trail sits on is an environmental success story that you get to hear if you listen to the audio tour along the way. We got to see amazing birds, turtles, fish and plenty of alligators. We hoped to find alligators but little did we realize how the other wildlife in the area would make us smile as well. We had such an amazing time at this experience! We decided the morning of to hop in the car and head over to this driving trail and hope to see some alligators up close from the safety from our car - this is exactly what we got on this trip.After a few days at a very packed Universal Studios - this was a great refuge to get away from the crowds and experience some REAL Florida!
